Community engagement in central Indiana

At Herron, we practice what we believe: that art and design can solve problems, build communities, and improve lives.

We have a history of promoting a collaborative culture not only in the classroom but across IU Indianapolis and the surrounding region. On campus, Herron faculty and students engage in interdisciplinary activities and shared research with their academic peers. They also bring imaginative ideas and solutions to life through the Basile Center, a civic engagement initiative with more than 120 clients and community partners.

Our Community Learning Programs have fostered the creative talents of local youth and teens through public classes, workshops, and camps for more than 125 years, and our adult arts programming is a popular option for lifelong learners.

Community Learning Programs – fall update: Saturday School is currently on pause as we welcome new staff members to our team. We appreciate your patience during this transition and look forward to offering exciting opportunities for artists of all ages — from first grade through adulthood — in 2026.
